about

I've been wanting to make this song for years, and it required doing a lot of homework on my part, as I am both an (older) cisgendered male and a privileged white **recovering homophobe** (a true child of the 60s).

What we've done here is create a true PARODY of the 1965 hit The Game of Love... Parody is protected by copyright law, so please lay off.

The new lyrics take on the Christian creation mythologies (Adam and Eve jump right out) from the original tune and then carefully go lyrically where the rainbow community has gone before (reclaiming terms such as 'queer' and 'fairie' and 'alphabet mafia' for their own enjoyment).

I've written and performed satirical social commentary for decades (even before my NewSong National Finals pick - "Four More Years" - written and recorded by The Swing States Road Show in 2001). In 2017, we released Hang on Ruthie (YouTube hits - 650K), a song celebrating the life and works of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. My influences include Randy Newman & Frank Zappa.

Two major motivations for doing this work. My trans daughter, now 27, has provided plenty of indirect motivation (and explicit education). Many of my contemporaries roll their eyes at gender-neutral pronouns and have little sense of what's going on with the rainbow community. This song is for them in particular.

To our dear queer friends and allies, "please don't let us be misunderstood." We don't pretend to be telling y'all YOUNGER GENERATIONS anything you don't already know ("ZYX showing us the way, don't be afraid to say THE NAMES OF LOVE"). We're trying to bring along those over ~50...

lyrics

~~LYRICS~~

VERSE 1 - The purpose of a man might be to love a woman
An option for a woman is to love a man
So come on people let's start today
Come on people and say
The names of Love Love Love Love
La La La La La La

VERSE 2 - It started long ago in a primeval puddle
When a funky little 'moeba says, mmm, I gotta split
So come on baby let's start today
Don't be afraid to say
The names of Love Love Love Love
La La La La La La

BRIDGE - You are he as they are we as she am me and we all birds afeather

VERSE 3 - Stepping through the glass, now friends, what's so scary
Bout some hunky little lover says they're non-binary
ZYX showing us the way, don't be afraid to say
The names of Love Love Love Love
La La La La La

FREESTYLE 1 - Over we go, like our clowny friend Nemo
Like the bearded lady lizards flipping their chemo
Koalas think it kinky how banana slugs do it
We're all a bit queer when you get down to it

FREESTYLE 2 - Alphabet Rainbow taking to the streets
Big fat fannies just looking so sweet
LGB who? never say (T word)
Girls who love girls and boys who love grannies

FREESTYLE 3 - Girls will be boys and boys will be girly
(Sing - Come on people the time is right!)
In between the sheets gets a little bit squirrelly
(Sing - Love your lovers with all your might)
Genderflux fairies coming out at the hop
Lady of the house is sporting a flat top

VERSE 4 - It started long ago in a primeval puddle
When a horny little 'moeba says "I gotta split"
Come on people let's start today
Don't be afraid to say
The names of Love Love Love Love
La La La La La La

OUTRO - The purpose of the one might be to love another
An option for the other is to love the one (repeat out)
